President's Message

Hello everyone!

How nice it is to see the green hue of the leaves as the trees wake up with the warmer (?) weather.

We had a good district conference at the end of April with some great speakers and camaraderie.

Our social night at the Bingo saw a presentation of a cheque to the club of the funds raised  for 2025-26.

Good work all, thanks for all your hard work.

Yours In Rotary,

Elaine

WITH COMMENTS FROM SYLVAIN
APRIL 24-26

I have attended my first District Conference.  It was a high energy whirlwind experience.

A gathering of old friends and like-minded enthusiasts.  All leaders and high-achievers in their own way.

That was so much to do and see.  Not enough time to do it all.  The House of Friendship was an excellent way for me to learn so many different aspects of Rotary, especially about other clubs.

The Keynote speakers were outstanding.  Their messages were deep and heartfelt.  I wished more time had been afforded to the speakers.

Cole & Christian at DisCon

The Rotary Club of Kingston-Frontenac's Youth Exchange students - rebound student Cole and current inbound student Christian - participated in the recent 2026 District Conference held in Kingston.  Christian proudly carried the German flag at the Gala, while Cole carried the Japanese flag.  Also shown below are all 9 of the District YouthEx students together with Maestro Diego Carneiro, a Rotary Peace Fellow and one of the keynote speakers at the event.

Christian continued his sporting ways as the high school Spring sports season got underway.  He competed on the Regi-Notre Dame track & field team, helping the Senior Boys 4x100m relay team win its opening heat on its way to a 4th-place finish overall at a the Limestone Legacy Track Meet.  As well, Christian made the RND Senior Boys Rugby team which is currently mid-way through its season.

Following the two competitive events in March at Durham College (Oshawa) and Nipissing University (North Bay), Lake Effect Robotics - Team 2708 qualified for the Ontario Provincial Finals in Niagara Falls from April 16-19, where the top 99 teams in Ontario competed, attempting to qualify for the World Championship in Houston, Texas.  Here follows their report:

Hey everyone!

We officially finished the FRC 2026 season with an exciting finale at the Provincial Championships in Niagara Falls! Our team worked hard and overcame many technical difficulties to run an amazing last few matches, finishing the competition with a 5-7 record and good for 37th place in the 50-team Science Division.  Unfortunately, we did not make the playoffs, but we cheered on the other Kingston teams.

With 30 District points earned in Niagara Falls, Team 2708 finished the season ranked 73rd in Ontario having earned a total of 78 points.

As we wrap up this season, we are looking forward to participating in the Science Rendezvous at Slush Puppie Place on May 9, where we will also be bringing our aluminum Can-Crusher robot. We are always seeking out new community outreach opportunities, and if your company is interested in partnering with us, our students are ready to participate!

On May 28th, we will host a sponsor appreciation BBQ at BGC Southeast, so please mark your calendars to attend! This will be an opportunity to see our robots in action, meet the students, and ask questions.

Hope to see you then! Thank you for all of your support this season! We couldn’t have done it without you!
